Dale,
I'm mystified again by your perception that this board is a particular focus for nastiness - unless you're getting PMs arising from it that the rest of us just aren't seeing.
There have been a number of ugly outbursts on the main whistle board in the last six or nine months, and for a while as the US girded its loins for war I found so much objectionable material there that I concentrated mainly on this one and the ITM one, and actively tried to stay away from the whistle board. I have heard rumours that some people left the wondrful world of C&F for good over that period.
Even apart from the politics/chauvinism stuff, there have been quite a few trashings of whistlemakers' reputations on the whistle board. Your guidance on what is acceptable is sound, and it seems to me to be generally more consistently abided by here than on the whistle board.

Closing this Board - Why?
I don't really understand why you would think of such a thing - I have found this forum very helpful and very entertaing.

That's entirely fair. First of all, I do get PMs and emails about this board that you don't see but, having said that, I think you are right that there is more of this unfounded negative posting on the whistle board. Of course, the whistle board is much bigger and busier, but that's ok....your point is well-taken. Probably my perception that this forum is more trouble is incorrect. I stand corrected.Roger O'Keeffe wrote:Dale,

I have no intention of closing the board (I had an impulse and acted on it--usually a bad idea.) Having said that, I really am hopeful that people will try to make negative (and for that matter, positive) posts as instructive as they can and specifically will make every effort to work out disputes somewhere OTHER than this forum.
Thanks to all of you.
