Howard reed

Post by Johnered66 »

I’ve come in possession of a Howard chanter and the reed seems a bit quiet throughout and somewhat choked on back D. I will fuss with it a bit but I’m not very good with that kind of thing. Was wondering if there are any reed makers fitting for a Howard chanter? Thanks for all your help and advice. Happy New Year.

Tell us something.: My motto: If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing badly. (Fortunately, as otherwise I'd never be allowed near a musical instrument.)

Brian Howard would, I guess? He retired from pipe making, but apparently still makes reeds. He might even be able to advise on adjustments to the reed you have before you replace it.

Tell us something.: I am a walrus, I am a tea pot. John Lennon said that but people see him as a guru. Well, tell, you what he also almost became a piper asking Paddy Keenan to teach him. (bleep) got bored & went on the sitar and the rest is history.

Yew, Brin still makes reeds. If you are interested, here is a recent interview I did with Brian, covering his entire pipemaking career https://www.wetootwaag.com/s5e27

I was able to place an order and it’s shipped out. Should be arriving in a week. Thanks all.
