A couple of vintage pipes

I've arranged to acquire these two pieces. There are several other sets in the bunch as well (Highland Pipes and Brian Boru Pipes). The full set (less bass drone top) strikes me as possibly Tadhg Crowley. The chanter (the one sticking out of the blowpipe stock  ) is a mystery to me. Any thoughts on maker for each?

You may want to crop the images back a bit and loose the empty white space. Then put the location of the images between image tags:

Thank you Mr.Gumby!

This is what I have in my post (I changed the opening tag bracket so it doesn't process):

<url]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... v5Kmz3aJrQ[/url]
<url]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... HYYr2BxPkb[/url]

<img]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... v5Kmz3aJrQ[/img]
<img]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... HYYr2BxPkb[/img]"

... but it still shows the links but not the images. Sorry to turn this into a lesson in posting images!

Also, once I edit the white space out (which I thought I had done in Windows Paint, but I obviously blew it :) ) and re-upload to Google Images, it will kill your links, since Google Images doesn't let me edit the images and replace them using the same name, as it creates its own link.

In any case, I've edited the links to show two full photos I had with no white space. Sorry that they are such poor quality photos, but that's all I have until the pipes are shipped.

Cheers!
Jeff

You can use the Code tags to display code without it rendering (also useful for preformatted text):

Code: Select all

[url]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPRSOV3EZcyuCAQjUoEJy_nh35PhpHYYr2BxPkb[/url]

[img]https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPRSOV3EZcyuCAQjUoEJy_nh35PhpHYYr2BxPkb[/img]
but it still shows the links but not the images.
Because these Google URLs don't end in an image file extension like .jpg, .png or .gif.

To get back to Jeff’s original question. I think the chanter in its‘interesting’ position, is an early Brain Howard? The scooping on the back d is quite distinctive.

Jon

PS I can never add pictures either, that’s why I never posted any of my new set when I got it.

I use Imgur for a photo hosting site. It's free.

You upload your photos to your Imgur gallery. Once a photo is there, there's a link you copy and paste on your post here, and Bob's your Uncle.

Someone erected, without planning permission, a similar concrete thing on Achill Achill henge. There'sa demolition order on it but it's still standing.

Do those structures actually work vis-a-vis sunlight, etc.?

The monument in Maryhill, Washington is a memorial to the local men killed in The Great War.

But we digress!

@jeff

That's an incredible find. Very nice! What are the Highland Set that came with it? Are they of the same vintage?

Cheers!

There were actually 6 sets of pipes in the auction lot:

Crowley Uilleann Pipes (each piece is stamped T. Crowley) with Leo Rowsome Bellows
Unknown maker Uilleann Pipe chanter with mainstock.
Pre-1900 Full Ivory Henderson GHB with matching stamped chanter.
Henry Starck Brian Boru pipes (3 drones mounted in a mainstock) with nickel ferrules and 9-key chanter
Henry Starck 2-drone "warpipe" with ivory button mounts and 4-key chanter
Henry Starck 2-drone "warpipe" with wood button mounts, no chanter

Cheers,
Jeff
