PJ, I spoke to Kevin about three years ago. Seems he was mostly done. Would love to hear different. Perhaps Tommy Martin has later news.

Our esteemed stalwart of the UP forum, Davy, just posted this on the Ebay thread. Looks like a fairly thin chanter.

Speaking of 40 years, I t was exactly 40 years ago tonight
that I met Bill Ochs standing on the steps outside of Carnegie Hall.
The Chieftains were playing and Bill was handing out flyers
with the picture of Patrick Coneely that read:
“Uilleann Pipe Lessons.
Instruments Available for Students”
Bill Ochs 212-247-XXXX.

One of those days that changed my life forever.
I called the very next day. He put me in contact
with David Quinn and the rest as they say is history.
I also got to meet Paddy Maloney backstage that night.

My first full set was bought from Doug Wilkinson and Glen McCarthy just over 40 years ago. Cost £400 which I had saved from my summer job while a student. Carried them back, wrapped in cardboard, from their workshop in east London to my hall of residence on the bus.
Chanter was definitely chunky, with scalloped finger holes.

I swapped a guitar amp for a Wilkinson and McCarthy 1/2 set many years ago. The chanter was, as you say, chunky. I ended up turning the outside diameter down quite a lot. The scalloped holes helped as I didn’t need to worry about changing the tuning. Which was a pity, as it never played in tune!
I still have it.

With regards to modern makers, Gordon Galloway’s chanters are quite slim.

This is possibly the thinnest a chanter can be. Made by Johnny Doran I wonder what it sounded like .

Probably "tinny"
