Tell us something.: I'm interested in learning from experienced flautists and whistlers and hopefully find some decent whistles in trades!

Looking for Left Handed Practice Set

Post by ScottishWhistler »

Hi all I'm looking for a decent practice set for less than £600 ideally. Does anyone have recommendations as to makers? I had looked at Aaron O'Hagan's pipes which are gorgeous but these probably are out my range. And also Martin Banba's pipes but I had heard mixed things about them. So any advice would be great.

The reed's the thing. Your best bet as a beginner is to buy as local as you can. An accessible, responsive maker who can help you with reed issues and support you until you achieve some reed making skills of your own will vastly improve your chances of getting a leg up on your piping. This is especially true if you live in a pipes unfriendly location with wide swings in humidity. You want to pipe, and master the bag-bellows equation more than fiddle with reeds. My tuppence.
