I have one of Tommy's C chanters and I absolutely LOVE it! Great tone, tuning is spot on, easy on the hands (short stretch), and (personally) very easy to reed!

I recently played the chanter at a friends home who owns a Q/K C chanter. We had an impromptu session together on our C chanters and my Martin chanter absolutely held it's own as far as tuning and tone.

Cannot recommend his work more highly, and for the price can't be beat.

all the best

Thanks for the very kind words Joe!

I have spoke to Mr. Quinn in the past about the fine work that Matt Kiernan did.
Throughout the '50's, '60's and '70's he was one of maybe a dozen makers worldwide.
But he was very rare in that he made low pitched chanters.
He had access to many antique sets of pipes and he had some way of measuring bores that is different to today's methods but equally accurate.

Long story short, my Matt copy may be based on Dan Dowds Egan chanter. It's very hard to say for definite because I don't have numbers for that Egan chanter.
But, whatever you may think about Taylor or W Rowsome, Michael Egan was the first to develop a wide bore chanter.
Anyway, this chanter is a tad wider than the classic Coyne or Kenna style and more like the late 19th / early 20th century C chanters that Egan, W Rowsome, Andrews, Brogan, McCrone, etc. would have made.

Thanks again Joe!

Tommy

Edited to add that I believe that Mr. Quinn has had made a C chanter somewhat based on a Kiernan chanter. He has lots of other C chanter options too.
