ST. Cyril's Day

Post by marcpipes »

Today is ST Cyril's Day, the patron saint of mages, slackasses and tired pipers. I lucked out yesterday. Michigan was unbelievably warm yesterday so my pipes ran great and I didn't freeze my butt off. Pulled about $613 for the day. :D

Tell us something.: I used to play pipes about 20 years ago and suddenly abducted by aliens.

If he made it busking then I'm moving to Detroit! ;)

Had 6 gigs over the weekend, two Saturday, two Sunday and two on the day itself. Wish it happened every week!!! ... well apart from the raw flesh on my arm from the bellows buckle and on my hip from the inner board of the bellows... I don't know how the Riverdance guys do it! Although I'd love to give it a try (Bill Whelan take note) Maybe more padding is required, well obviously.

A little of both. A couple of bars in my town hire me to go back and forth between them playing for their patrons. I get $100 for 5 visits. The rest of the money is in tips. A get a pretty girl (tip tart) to carry around a tip can while I play. She passes out business cards, relays requests, collects money and keeps me calm while we run around. It's a nice system instead of having to wonder if the customers are getting tired of the music. They get their little Celtic fix, ask me some silly questions, give me money and I'm on my way. I wish I could use the uilleann pipes for this, but the bars a just too loud, so it's the highland pipes and the tin whistle. Too much huff and puff for the night. Six or seven pints helped out a lot.
