Thanks for those Mr. Gumby. Very touching, and allowed me to share in his tributes, for which I am very glad..indeed.

I was counting how many times I saw Liam in concert and think I was fortunate to see him 6 times, often playing alongside others (Planxty, Paddy Glackin, Liam O'Connor), with his keyboards, guitar and percussion band, and a couple of times solo. I saw him in some very grand concert halls as well as smaller arts centres. I never got to see him in an informal setting like some others have recalled. He seemed to be the unofficial national piper of Ireland as he was always the piper to be chosen to play for the president, monarch, religious leader etc. whenever there was a big state event.

Planxty : No Disco.

And do watch 'Joe Heaney : Songs of Granite' as well, while you're there.'

Thank you so much for the link. A thoroughly enjoyable video and actually my new favorite of Liam.
Do you know anything about the recording other than the date and where it was recorded. It funny that the picture is lacking in quality almost ghostly when the sound is relatively good. Thanks again.

RORY
PS Liam seemed to play the regs a lot more in them days and very tastefully too.

Brilliant time capsule, capturing the time just before Planxty. Enjoyed hearing his settings, especially of those tunes that would go on to be Planxty staples, and the popular tunes of the day.

Thanks for unearthing this.

Yes, this is gold. Thank you so much. It's so nice to see him play Old Joe's Jig (the tune he opens with); I've only heard him play that on the cassette tape recording that Bill Ochs (RIP) had. It's a great tune and his regulator parts are so tasteful and beautiful. Thanks again for sharing this link!
