I haven't made a reed in a over a year but the reed in my B chanter died and I set myself to work yesterday. I gouged and sanded a slip, rolled a staple and tied on the head, intending to let it sit for a day or two before I start sanding the V. I looked for a suitable container to store the blank safely and found one in the toolbox. I opened it and to my surprise found 4 other blanks which I then remember having made about a year ago.
That's the problem with making reeds: you have to space things out, and then life gets in the way.

Recently I Tried forming a pre-scrape (Cillian O'Brien) before tying on the head and have had good results.
