Drying wood

Post by amckay »

Hi All

The local orchard is cutting down its old fruit trees (primarily apple) to make way for new plantings. The grower is happy to cut specific lengths and sizes for me to eventually turn into pipes.
Question is - what is commonly used to seal the ends of the wood for the drying process?

Thanks

Either of those will do. Parafin might be best.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

If you are in a rush, DIY wood kilns look easy to make. I,ve never made one myself but always fancied having a go with some of the ash that grows around where I live.

If you're anywhere near the Emerald Ash Borer regions, you might be wise to lay up some lumber now.
