Quebracho wood?

Post by Bok Choi »

Has anyone experimented with White or Red Quebracho wood (Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco/Aspidosperma quebracho-colorado) from Argentina? They say "quebracho" means "axe breaker", and I was wondering whether its apparent hardness then would make it good chanter wood.

Bok, I did a Yahoo search on quebracho and didn't see anything relating to musical instruments. Most of the websites were in Spanish, but it appears to be best suited for cabinets, fence posts, doors and flooring.
One website said it was very difficult to work, especially when dry, but takes a high natural polish.
