Chanter Top material & straight vs swan vs direct tie neck

Post by Oldpiping »

Hi,

I am sure it was probably already discussed, but I would like to find some thoughts on this question, since I noticed that some makers when making Concert D chanters prefered to use metal tops and straight necks (Leo Rowsome, Alain Froment, Cillian O'Briain ect.) while others prefer wooden tops and swan necks (Andreas Rogge, Sam Lawrence, Seth Gallagher, Bill Haneman ect.).

Did someone who tried to use metal and wooden top with the same chanter, noticed what impact this 2 materials have on the sound qualities?
Same question for swan VS straight neck for chanter top?

It might be small, but I think every part must have some influence! Thanks for your help.
