Glasgow's Piping Live festival kicked off tonight.

I popped in the National Piping Center after work to catch a short set by
Gay Mckeon, Emmit Gill, and Mark Redmond playing under the Na Piobairi Uilleann banner.

They played in concert in unison for the most part but the three solos really stood out.
Emmit played Lord Mayo on an Egan B which was lovely, not sure if it was the original chanter though.

Gay played Lord Gordon and The Braes of Busby on his O Brian set. Nice settings of both.

For me the best moment though was Mark Redmond playing Trip Over the Mountain and Boys of Portaferry on his Woof C though. The set just sounded perfect and he had an interesting little reg playing bit on the Boys. Its hard to describe the sound of a set of pipes all I can say is it was the best sounding set I,ve heard in a while.

They are on again in Georges Square tomorrow.

....and they were excellent in the Piping Centre on Tuesday morning talking about the history of the pipes, a bit about technique, and lots of great tunes, together with a solo spot each, playing in C and B as well as concert pitch. They played again in the afternoon with a completely different set of tunes in the George Square Bar. Very fine playing from each of them.
And the sun shone!
