Richard L Patkos Pipes

Post by Pbomb6 »

Guys just look to find out if anyone has bought or played a set made by the above maker?

I am considering getting a set from him but I can't find anyone that has bought from him before!

Richard sent me two of his chanters for trying them out. A B plumwood and a D made of Ebony. To my taste the D chanter was too thick and I personally dont like the "bubble" form, I like my chanters straight. The reed of the D chanter was rather hard to play, but Richard told me it was one he plays with and he likes them rather hard. The B chanter was very nice and comfortable. unfortunately the reed suffered serious damage so I could not get the whole sound of the chanter.
Anyhow I liked the B one and I ordered a B Practice Set in January. I´m curious about how it will work and play.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi :)

I've got a set of D drones in plum, boxwood and brass made by Richard, the ones Mikko is talking about. I am very satisfied with them in all ways and recently ordered regulators from him. He is a nice guy to deal with and a good piper himself.

I have no experience with his chanters, but judging by his youtube videos and the audio files on his website, they all sound great and seem to be very well in tune. I will probably ask him to make me one in the future.

As for reeds, you can surely ask him to equip the set with softer ones if that's what you want, but bearing in mind that in the long run you'll probably be making your own reeds anyways, I see no reason why not order from him if you like his work otherwise :)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

The time went by and i was informed 5 weeks ago that my set is ready. So i payed the same day i got the information. Unforntunatetly I didnt get any replies to emails or my set since that.

Anyone here knows how i can reach Richard? I already tried the phone number listed on pipers.ie, it´s not valid anymore.

Maybe i didn´t say it correctly. I do know the webpage and i have sent him like 6 emails the last five weeks without getting any reply. So maybe someone is here who has a phone number or some information what the problem could be.

There was a young piper from Kent
Who's chanter was extremely bent
When his drones went all curly
his mood went all surly
considering the money he'd spent.
