Chiff and Fipple Forums

I've tried with 3 different browsers (Opera, Chrome & Firefox), and live chat wont connect with any of them. It's been like this for well over a week now (if possibly longer) and im wondering if this is just me, or if its a C&F issue?

Boy, it's been years since I looked at the Chiffy Chat. I'll probably refer this to Dale to look into.

I was just now able to connect to the #chiffy channel using the freenode IRC web client and server. No one home.

It was quite active for sometime. Not sure anyone uses it at all anymore.

Works for me. Alan and Moon were the most frequent users, and they are often communicating by other means these days. Facebook, Skype, etc. MtGuru is still logged in right now, but not answering. Ah, Alan just showed up.

For awhile I was stopping in there every so often, and occasionally there were some people in there recently. It wasn't working for me this past week either, though.

I'm glad to know its not me/my browser/my PC then.

How do I get to chiff chat on freenode? I type in my nick and #chiffy for the channel, but apparently thats not it.

I just entered a nick, and #chiffy as the channel, did the reCAPTCHA, and clicked Connect. Seemed to let me right in.

I'm sure there are other web clients that would work, too. Freenode is just the first one I tried. I'd guess you could also use a standalone IRC client and point it to a server with the #chiffy channel on its list.

I gave Dale some info about our Live Chat link if he wants to look into it.

I tried that with freenode, but you are joining chiffy on freenode and not on irc.perl.org. I went to the freenode channel to get help with that, and they said I had to get a standalone IRC.

As far as the C&F live Chat here. when I enter my nick and click on join, it just hangs in connection mode until I get disconnected on a ping timeout. only then I can see who is in chat and whats been said while I was waiting for connection to complete.

Yes, that's probably a good solution.

Why the Perl geeks are hosting our chat channel is a mystery.

So is the chatroom completely dead? Last few times I joined, I was all by my lonesome.

What with Facebook and all, I think Chat may have fallen out of fashion.
