Quotes / Specific User

Post by projektio28 »

Okay, I admit ignorance or "noobocity" in not knowing how to do this...

How on Earth do I quote a specific user in a thread? I understand how to use the [ quote ] insert user's text here [ /quote ] to get the quote box to appear, but how do you get the "John Doe wrote:" part to show up?

I enjoy participating in this forum, and a few others, that run similar BB software, but this is one little thing that drives me crazy and I can't go another day without knowing how to do it properly! :swear:

Thanks for any enlightenment!

Click the Image at the top left of the message you'd like to quote.

That'll automatically generate the BBcode [text] for a quoted post; it's not difficult to work out how it works from there, and then you can edit the text by deleting the parts you don't want to quote.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Alternatively, you can always type in the quote tags manually:

Code: Select all

[quote="JohnDoe"]quoted text here[/quote]
It's the equals sign and quoted "JohnDoe" in the opening tag that generates the "JohnDoe wrote" part.

Wonderful! I can't believe I never noticed the little quote box before, but I am glad to know the code for it too. I think what was happening is I was missing the quotes around the username.

By the way, MTGuru, I love your Hypno-Toad avatar, everytime I see it I crack up. (Huge fan of Futurama here...)

next to the 'quote' box there should an 'edit' box on your posts
and an 'x' box on your posts, until someone else posts to the thread, that will delete the post (if you confirm)

Yes, lunch! Just did that....back at it.
