Myn avatar that has been there since the upgrade, has just dissappeared. along with several others. I tried to upload my avatar again and it said that it had uploaded ok, but it still just shows the box with the red x

When I just checked this thread, my avatar was gone. I opened my profile and it was there and when I returned to this thread it showed up. I think Dale is messing with us.

The software is not resolving the id of the avatar when it writes the html page.
(The "source" that I posted was a snippet of the html source that the browser renders into the junk we see.)

I expect one of the officialdom will poke about on the phpBB site and see if it is a known bug.

Actually, Denny, both the "short" and "long" forms of the avatar URL seem to display correctly. I think the disappearing problem is something else.

It just happened to me, and at least a dozen others that I could see. I re-uploaded my avatar, and ... nothing. Still only "User avatar". Waited an hour, did a refresh, and voilà it's back (with the "long form" URL)

I suspect it's something to do with board load and not displaying avatars when some limit is reached. But I'm clueless at this point. A cruise through the phpBB support board turned up several mentions of the exact same problem, but no solutions.

hmm, I can get the long one to work but not the short.

So the view/index/logical/whatever that is used to retrieve the avatar id (and even if there isn't one named explicitly sql will create and reuse one) is having latency issues.

Yeah, I know.....I'll just go back to making snarky remarks about things that don't matter.

Looks like if it doesn't reappear within the next 48 hours I'll have to reload an image. Considering that the change over has been made, the chances seem slim.

Edit: Seems to be working now. Still has a short extension. download/file.php?avatar=2965.png

I'm having this problem too...so now it's not just Denny's avatar that is gone (although Denny's is back now). Lots of other ones are too. AND mine is missing, which is very sad. Now I'll need a new one. Quite a stretch for me...
