INVALID SESSION

Post by talasiga »

Has this happened to anyone else here at this forum?
I have not experienced this elsewhere:-

When I tried to enter a long cogitated post I got this message:-

"INVALID SESSION
You are receiving this message because your login session information did not match what we expected. Please send mail to webmaster@mati.ca informing them" ...
... etc

Of course I will respond but I am curious about this.
Its SpOOOOOkie :o

Am I not welcome here?

I do like tin whistles

Talasiga, you are quite welcome here! I've had it happen to me, as well, and lost everything. It was suggested to me that I ought to work my longer efforts out on Word (assuming you're using Microsoft), copy, and paste them to the message body page.

Don't know why it happens, and I tend to forget to use Word for the longer posts. Whatever it is, it bugs the $#!& out of me. Now I just sigh, and move on.

Maybe I'm not welcome.

I think it's spelled 'outta'

If you decide to reply to a topic and that thread gets locked or deleted just before you get (by hitting enter) the chance to add your post, the system will respond with error message. Invalid session sounds like one of those kinds of messages.

No, Tony, this has happened to me on thriving threads and PMs. The intended posts tend to be long compositions, and there seems to be a tie-in with that.

Very annoying.

Isn't it amazing the way our minds already know what's wrong, even though they don't tell us? That's the key, Tal . . . "long and cogitated."

Depending on how busy it is and if it's got plans for the evening, the software will cut you off if you take too long. Kind of like an ejector seat for windbags.

Not to take offense at that, please. I'm a frequent flyer myself. It happens both here and at school, where we host our student forums on the same software. Until I learned the handy trick of simply submitting my message every few reams and immediately editing it to add more, I lost volumes of self-important lectures and inspirational drivel.

It's just as well. When I've been blathering on so long that I'm booted, I've likely been saved from making an ass of myself yet again. After all, if it took THAT LONG to say what I said, there's probably something I can cut out of it. And if I ever remember what I was talking about, it's often a lot shorter when I do get around to posting it.

So, remember . . . "submit" often and then go right back in to "edit."

Another tactic would be to type faster: Cortez Peters Championship Keyboarding. I guarantee it will get you up to 120 wpm. :D

I take it you're a teacher or something and yet your comprehension skills seem wanting.

I did not say
".....long, cogitated post ...."
but
"..... long cogitated post ...."

Can you spot the difference?

Oh. It wasn't long and cogitated, but had been cogitated . . . long.

My apologies, Tal. I should take more care when I'm reading. It wasn't a comma that was needed, but a hyphen!

"Long-cogitated." Compound modifier.

In some circles hyphens in words were phased out with mohair socks.

Well, then you won't fuss when you complain of having long cold feet and people hand you larger shoes instead of the frostbite kit, eh?
