So, you'd rather have Google control your life than Apple? :-)

Possibly in the future when there is a large number of Android tablets that can handle a minimum of 8 simultaneous touches required to do the fingering emulation. I don't believe that is the case today.

I do, Google is free, and you don't require other pricey Google stuff to use it.

Google is free? Google <owns> your life and I would expect knows more about us than the NSA... :-)

Still, until there is widespread availability of Android based tablets that support 8+ touch multitouch, I can't port my iPad apps to that platform.

Google knows about us (and it is really irritating), but doesn't <own> our life. This is what Apple is trying though...

I'd rather give Apple my money and know exactly what I'm getting and what rules I'm agreeing to. With Google, its just a big friendly fuzzy shiny black hole where everything is free, just let us comb through your email, your phone calls, your address books. Nothing to worry about. What could possibly go wrong.

Of course they say they will do no evil so we have nothing to worry about. :-)

Anyway, if you have an iPad and a spare dollar, you can buy my Irish Flute app in a week or so. Perhaps its best we move the Apple vs. Google discussion to another board.

Neat, eskin! Good MIDI sound. What are you doing
during the ornaments? Are you purposefully changing
the sound in some way or is it just a side effect of
chaning MIDI notes quickly?

The sound isn't MIDI-based, its per-note audio samples of my 1857 Metzler. It's pretty unforgiving of "crossing" noises, the UI is really fast so you really have to play cleanly, but you can do all the standard flute ornaments and the holes are mapped to give the "right" note for all the cuts, taps, crans, etc.

It's probably best to think of it as a "practice chanter" for flute rather than a realistic instrument, which it is not, since there really isn't any way to provide breath pressure based expression. You can play staccato notes, and do finger vibrato, but there isn't any way to do the equivalent of breath pulsing or nuanced articulation.

It sounds pretty good for what it is even considering its limitations (which for the price, I'm sure will be forgiven), and most importantly is extremely fast with zero lag.

That explains it.

Another short demo video playing "Lord Inchiquin", tweaked some of the sample attack transients before the final release to Apple.

This one has some reverb added during editing:

In that clip, the attack between notes
makes it sound very much like pipes.

Not surprising considering that I tend to play the flute in the real world a lot like I play the Uilleann pipes as far as ornamentation.

Might as well put the flute samples on an English concertina for the iPhone/iPod Touch crowd:
