So, what apps are you using on your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad to help with your trad music endeavors?

On my iPhone:

iStroboSoft - Strobe tuner from Peterson, the only tuner I use in sessions any more

ClearTune - Also a tuner, but I only use it as a tone generator when we need a reference A440

iProRecorder - Great recording program from the developers of Bias

TunePal - Bryan Duggan's amazing live tune identification tool

TuneBook - ABC tunebook with standard notation, able to search for tunes by name, key, style

Tempo - Very flexible metronome app

Decibel - dB meter for when I wonder just how loud those drunk guys at the table next to the session are shouting

Englitina - English concertina, one of my concertina apps

JustDrones - My tunable Uilleann pipes drones app

ePipesDrones - My tunable Scottish pipes drones app

On my iPad:

Same as above plus my Uilleann, Uilleann-B, and ConcertinaXL apps

Interesting. How does the concertina scale on
the pad? It seems like the buttons sized for the
iPhone would be pretty far apart on iPad...

I'd love to have TunePal but I hear it doesn't work so well on the Touch since it won't always be able to access the internet.

fearfaoin, the iPad ConcertinaXL app has a full 30 button layout exactly matching my own Lachenal in terms of spacing on the iPad screen:

and there is actually some leeway in how close you have to be to the buttons, i.e. its quite forgiving in terms of finger position, you can be a little sloppy (which is a good thing, since there is nothing to feel) and the app will still do what you expect.

Works beautifully, you put it on your leg and tilt the iPad left/right for push/pull, the amount of tilt required is completely adjustable.

Michael, can you reduce the size of that photo?

That's true, TunePal requires a network connection to send the audio data to Bryan's server on the planet Krypton, so if the venue where you have your session doesn't have WiFi, it won't work.

Well, it's at someone's house; while I don't know if they have wifi or not I suspect they won't want to be handing out the password.

It'd be nice if there were an option to download a database locally and have it on hand, or record a snatch to check out later - though maybe it already does that last one, I don't know.

I think the heavy lifting is done on the server, not on the device itself.

That is 100% awesome.

To add to your list...

Just got iTalk last night after seeing it on another's iPhone. It's a VERY good recorder for $2 - quality is selectable and fidelity is pretty much perfect. Won't replace my Zoom H4, but the 'phone is always in my pocket and the Zoom isn't.

Finally got around to posting a video of my iPad MiditinaXL wireless MIDI English Concertina controller in action, this is of the upcoming version 1.1 that has graphics based on a 1924 Lachenal Edeophone 12-sided instrument:

also one for EnglitinaXL, the 48-button English Concertina for the iPad:

I just received an iPad ...
Concertina XL app was one of the first apps I got. Kudos Michael, that app's a lot of fun. Since I mostly play stringed instruments, the concertina feels like a strange, alien beast that defies logic, but that doesn't stop the app from being fun. It appeal to me in the same way that a puzzle does, I guess.

And after reading about it in this thread, I just downloaded Tunepal. Wow. The time that'll save me, time I might have spent poking ABC phrases into the Advanced search on thesession... very nice. It even seems to work fine even when I flub the tune somewhat.

I recently found "pitch primer". It's very usefull as tuner and to do/record exercises.

Have a look: Pitch Primer

That looks pretty cool, brotherwind.
Much like the pitch display in Autotune
or Melodyne. I admit I'd get distracted
by the shifting and zooming when going
between octaves (though it's necessary
for a small screen).
