The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for people who are interested in the Irish language and various Celtic languages to discuss them, to practice them, and to share information about them, particularly (but not exclusively) in the context of traditional music and culture.

This is not a "translation forum," per se, though translation requests may occasionally be honored at the discretion of the moderators. It's blocked for me at work. I'll look at it when I get home. If anybody cares to do some kind of translation, that would be a kindness.

The first bit (with just the one guy chanting) is nonsense: Ciúnas bóthar cailín bainne (Silence road girl milk). It comes from the last line of this ad, In which a guy, challenged in a bar to "do something Irish," simply repeats random words and phrases in "school" Irish, pretending it's a "poem in our native Irish tongue.":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF9FLBvxgho&NR=1

The rest of it is part of a child's nursery song that most Irish kids learn in school at some point:

Lámh, lámh eile, a haon, a dó
Cos, cos eile, a haon, a dó
Súil, súil eile, a haon, a dó
Cluas, cluas eile, a haon, a dó

A hand, another hand, one, two
A leg, another leg, one, two
An eye, another eye, one, two
An ear, another ear, one, two.

They left off the rest of the song:

Ceann, is srón, is béal, is smig
Is fiacla bána sa bhéal istigh

A head, and a nose, and a mouth, and a chin,
And white teeth the mouth within.

Redwolf

Edited to put in a subtitled version of the Carlsberg ad

Ná habair é!

I actually taught "Lámh, Lámh Eile" to a women's group at my church one St. Patrick's Day...they'd invited me and a few musician friends to come "do something Irish" so, after playing a few jigs and reels and singing a couple of sean-nós songs, I had them all stand up and "learn an Irish nursery rhyme"
