Tell us something.: I'm a traveling man, made a lot of stops. All over this world. And in every port, I own the heart of a cute little girl. Woah, I'm a travel'n man. Yes, I'm a travel'n maa-an. Woah, I'm a travel'n man.

It's good to see the site back online. I was sad when I couldn't get the site. ( I may have sworn a little bit at the time. Santa gave me a potato for that. Coal's too expensive. ) Thanks for all the hard work, guys, especially at Christmastime. Have you thought about solving your problems by purchasing a small moon and -- okay maybe not.

Merry Ho-ho;

I have been out of pocket for a few days. When I have accessed the forums, performance has been excellent and so it appears, to my surprise, that moving the forum to Dreamhost PS has, at least for now, taken care of the problem.

If the current situation is an indication, it may end up being less costly than I had feared. The cost slides based on usage. The first week was free and the memory allowance was maxed out by Dreamhost. That week just ended. Here's a graph that gives us an idea of how memory use is going:

So, a couple of things: Do let us know if you see any decline in performance in the forum this week. Don't be too quick to post it...if you experience a problem, give it time to make sure it's not isolated.

I don't mind picking up the tab for the PS thing as long as the Wisely Family Full Employment situation persists and the bill is the $25 or so beyond my usual costs, which is what's happening now. In fact, the Google ads revenue will easily cover that amount plus my other costs associated with having a presence on the web for C&F and RHP and some other projects. There's also enough left over to pay for my haircuts, which are clearly a business expense.

Later, y'all.

misterpatrick wrote:I have used 1and1.com for a long time. They are huge but I have had no experience using them with a site with this much SQL traffic. But they are big and cheap and big and may work for this site. The other big one that has a stellar reputation and offers grid, virtual and dedicated stuff is Media Temple at http://mediatemple.net/. I have not used them but people always seem really happy with their service and a lot of sites I respect use their service. They are also known for very good customer support. 1and1 does fine with customer support but is your typical off-shored go by the book kind of thing.

Just a few thoughts.

Hi,

I'm sorry but I can't let you say ANYTHING good about 1and1, they are the worst and their customer service also, they almost never reply, look at the captcha they were using before a customer threatened to sue them:

http://www.digg-france.com/VIDEO/WWW-1A ... S-DE-1AND1

Also they cut your base and put you website down for any reason, without warning, what Dreamhost would NEVER do.

Happy new year, but not with 1&1 the cheaters.

Any chance we'll see RSS feeds (on a per-forum basis) again in the near future? I do miss that feature.
