RSS Feed Survey
RSS Feeds are one of the custom board features which were available on C&F before the recent phpBB3 upgrade. This survey will give us an idea of how often they were actually used, and how important they are to bring back. Thanks!

Re: RSS Feed Survey
I didn't like the options
I know what it is.
I tried it.
I don't use it.
I still think it should be done.

Re: RSS Feed Survey
I have an RSS reader as my browser's home page, and subscribe to C&F's feed, along with the various blogs that I follow. Basically, the feed gives me an in to what's being discussed in the forums without having to manually go through each one and see what's come up.
It's a really nice feature and I've been missing it a lot.

Re: RSS Feed Survey
Is the minimal response to this due to lack of interest in RSS feeds, or that most folks barely ever look at the Announcements forum?

Voted.
I never knew we had the ability, but I'm not sure I'd have used it anyway.

Re: RSS Feed Survey
I used to check my feeds almost daily. This is only the 3rd or 4th time I have checked the forum directly since the RSS feeds disappeared. Why?
Because my Google Reader allows me to go thru the entries quickly and read the ones of interest. The forum doesn't have that capacity. I simply don't have time to read some or all of everything in order to find something that directly applies to me. Life is too short.
My guess is that the folks that don't use an efficient RSS reader simply don't know what it can accomplish for them.
I REALLY wish the feeds would be reestablished. I'll check back in a few weeks to see if anything is cooking.

I think the short answer would be "yes".flynnieous wrote:Is the minimal response to this due to lack of interest in RSS feeds, or that most folks barely ever look at the Announcements forum?
Call me a lamer, but I wouldn't know what an RSS feed was if it came up to me and said, "Hello," much less why I'd use one.

Re: RSS Feed Survey
We actually installed the RSS templates a few weeks ago - right before the board went to hell. Then unstalled them again to reduce the memory footprint. If things stay stable now for a while, we'll give it another go and let you know.
Nano, my parents taught me never to talk to strange RSS feeds. Just nod politely and walk away.

Re: RSS Feed Survey
I really miss the RSS feeds. It was the only way I accessed/read the board until the recent upgrade.
Do they really take that much memory? More, say, than having users like me online just to see if there are new messages?
Possibly the feeds would actually reduce the memory profile, in practice... ?
Is the increased memory footprint due to the upgrade? (I forget what the advantages of the upgrade were - I know there are a couple of new features but I don't use them yet.)

Re: RSS Feed Survey
Thanks, Bill. We should revisit this issue now that things are settled a bit.

Anything new?
Thought I would check in. Any headway with the feeds?

Re: RSS Feed Survey
I don't know how to make this happen. Can anyone help research it?
