Post by MaxFlute »

Anyone out there know of a good source of reeds for a Turkish zurna?
Would a bombarde one work?
Thanks!!

Tell us something.: I'm here because I just wanted to change my location... but it turns out much more complicated than I thought. Do I already have the 100 required characters?
Location: Klietz, Germany

It is very unlikely a bombarde reed will work in a zurna, even if it would basically work, it would definitely not give you the sound and the technical possibilities you'd expect from a zurna.
If you google "zurna kamisi" you'll be directed to a number of shops that have them - however, I can say nothing about the quality.
If there is a turkish community in your area, this would be the first place to ask.

Good call. In the meantime I've got hold of a Bombarde, have ordered a pack of 20 zurna reeds (I already have the staple), and have located a vid of someone tying on a Zurna reed.....
