Stabilizing the recorder with right pinky

What's the consensus on stabilizing the recorder with right pinky on its hole or next to it?
It seems in recorder context this is referred to as "buttress technique" but there's very little information on it, and apparently a bunch of people are against it. It does help a lot with difficult transitions like Eb-G' (on an alto). Is the technique mentioned in any recorder method books?
