Kynseker models recorder

Post by meoweth »

Hi there, I got a kynseker tenor recorder plumwood mollenhauer and had a quick question.
It seems the bigger diameter bore of the kynseker means there is more breath pressure required to play it, but it also has the ability to play louder.
Is this analysis true?

While I do not play Kynseker recorders, the rule of thumb rule is not quite like this. The breath pressure is quite independent of the bore of a given instrument, instead, it is the direct result of the windway configuration. (that is, the narrower the windway, the larger the backpressure, meaning the less air expelled, but more pressure needed.) The second part, however, is more-or-less correct. (yes, the larger the bore, the louder it is, other things being equal within reason.)
