Carbon fiber and Bamboo flutes/recorders

Post by meoweth »

I have some connections with factories in China and was just playing with the idea of making a carbon fiber flute/recorder.
I know that Matit has carbon fiber flutes, but they don't look like this: http://www.tapplastics.com/uploads/prod ... ber-xl.jpg

I want carbon fiber like the above image in a flute or recorder, any opinions on how it'll sound? I think that wealthy people could look at this as a luxury item.
Silver/Gold flutes are unbiquitous and a bit pretentious to be a luxury good. But carbon fiber seems to be right material here.

While we are on the topic of using unorthodox materials for flute making. What about a bamboo recorder? I know that native american recorders are basically a bamboo recorder, but its not.
A recorder has a certain bore, and well designed ones like Denner are just engineered with a certain level of precision.

We all know bamboo are basically tubes, not able to be molded like a block of wood that recorders are made from.
So what about using bamboo composite (basically finely shredded bamboo thats been pressed into a solid block). Using the same precision and design to manufacture a Denner-like recorder with this bamboo composite, would it sound more like the bamboo flutes (more windy)?

Same question for the carbon fiber composite, although I doubt carbon fiber is the best material to use for recorder construction, it could easily something highly coveted by non-musicians who want luxury goods.

To clarify, Im just throwing around some ideas, I have no plans to really do any of this
