Trouble disassembling Yamaha 302b bass recorder

Post by gadgetgirl »

I am an AMATEUR recorder player. I just got a Yamaha 302B bass recorder which I love. However, it is very difficult for me to separate the head joint from the rest of the instrument to disassemble. Any suggestions? Thanks! (Yes, I've used the joint grease.)

Welcome, gadgetgirl.

Yes, those plastic-on-plastic joints can get really stuck. They'll come apart with a strong twist, but you need a really good grip. Try wearing a pair of rubber kitchen gloves (Playtex etc.). Then twist and pull straight, being careful not to "bend" the joint and break the tenon. Once apart, wipe the joint clean and apply some fresh joint grease every time you reassemble it. That should do the trick!

I actually keep a pair of latex surgical gloves in my gig bag for exactly this purpose, for whistles and recorders.
