Where can I get a floyera?

Post by HunterGatherer »

Hello everyone,

does anyone know where I can get a floyera flute online?
It's a greek end blown flute.

Thanks,

HunterGatherer.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I found this:

http://www.greekfolkmusicanddance.com/forsale.php

Hope it'll do for starters.

Those look nice. Just note that, as the seller says, those floyeras (floyeres) are not fipple flutes but end-blown like a kaval. Of course, φλογέρα just means "flute" in Greek, so it could be either.

HunterGatherer, it's not clear which one you're after. But if it's a "whistle" floyera, you might contact that seller (in Stockton, California) to ask if he has, or ever carries, those as well.

I have an interesting genuine fipple floyera from a friend of mine in Greece. And my impression from him is that they're not easy to come by, unless perhaps for the tourist trade, and those are often unplayable.

MTguru: I have no idea what I'm after. I'm looking for a flute like the serbian frula, and thought that the floyera was similar. I didn't know it was a rim blown flute. Do you know where I can get a serbian frula, or a similar flute for a reasonable price?
