Difference of Notes Between Soprano and Alto Recorder
Re: Difference of Notes Between Soprano and Alto Recorder
Hmmm. Then perhaps the instrument is better left to charming young girls such as those in the video. I can't play the sopranino reliably well with my ham-fisted mitts. I'll change my earlier quote to "I can't imagine what I would do with it!" LOL!

Re: Difference of Notes Between Soprano and Alto Recorder
I once met a young woman who was travelling round the world with as little baggage as possible. She kept a garklein ready at all times in her jacket pocket. Playing along with that, my alto recorder sounded like a bass.
My favourite party piece for it is the pseudo-Irish hornpipe "The March Hare" - and if I can coordinate it it, switching between greatbass and garklein.

My alto recorder sounds like a garklein compared to my bass recorder!
I can identify with carrying a small instrument around....
I carry my harmonica with me. The problem is, it's not a great outdoor instrument since it's valved, and moisture makes it stick. There are non-valved ones but I don't really enjoy the air leaks.

That's a big issue in the harmonica world - valved vs. non-valved. The valves cover the reeds, like the flappers in a concertina, and prevent leakage. But they can change the feel and response of the harp.Tim2723 wrote:What the heck is a valved harmonica??
