4 hole ocarina (tips on plays request)

Post by mutepointe »

I borrowed a 4 hole ocarina. I learned the fingering for a 10 hole within a day. This 4 hole thing is tricky. Does anyone have any tricks to remembering the fingering?

Walden has an Ocarina forum....bring a dust cloth
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.

Yeah, I guess. The newest post is nine months old. What happened to his forum?

Never learned any tricks for it, just practice til it becomes automatic is all I can say. If I play for a couple of days straight I get better at it, but then I put it away for months and have to start all over again. I much prefer in-lin ocs for that reason. I don't get as rusty with them.

There's a chromatic ocarina scale on-line. I copied and pasted each individual picture and made my own diatonic ocarina scale. I skipped over the non-diatonic notes. Then I changed do, re, me to C, D, E and typed those under each picture. That simplified things for me. Now I can visualize an D or E or whatever in my head. That'll get me through the basics.

Hope this doesn't violate any C&F policies... head on over to www.theocarinanetwork.com there is a section full of fingering charts which will have a 4hole pendant chart, which is exactly what you need!.

Yeah, basically the Ocarina Network has rendered my forum obsolete.

Well, I figured out the 4 hole ocarina. it was fun. Sadly, the sound of this ocarina goes right through my wife's skull too. She doesn't like ocarinas. I'll be giving it back to the owner on Monday. Even the learning days on the pennywhistle did not bother her anywhere near like an actual song on an ocarina. I'm sure a bass ocarina might help but that ain't gonna happen any time soon.
