great Duduk playing on Battlestar Galactica

Post by pancelticpiper »

Last Saturday night I did a Battlestar Galactica gig.

There have been a series of concerts featuring the music from the new TV show composed by Bear (yes, like the beast) McCreary.

They assemble a bunch of great LA studio pros for these live things. Bear plays synth and conducts.

(I was only involved because the regular uilleann piper, Eric Rigler, was on tour.)

Anyhow it was very interesting for someone like me who has never watched that show to hear the music, much of which has Arabic, Armenian, and Indian influences (many themes are based on the interval of a minor 2nd) and much of which features Duduk.

The guy playing Duduk and Bansuri is the great LA studio pro flute guy Chris Bleth. He took lessons from (who else?) Djivan Gasparian and has gotten really, really good on the duduk.

Anyone out there who is interested in Duduk might want to check out some of the Battlestar Galactica stuff. Some is on YouTube.
