Re: Flute Photos!!! Come post your flute pictures :)
Hi Jem. Thanks for your quite helpful info on the flute. It really gave me a better understanding these remarkable instruments.
As for the sounding length: 580mm
overall length : 660mm
Hope it helps...
I bought at an antique shop for $ 120 (as is) with original case.Thankfully it had no cracks and just needed recorking and repadding. I Then had it overhauled for $129 at an excellent instrument repair shop. So overall i spent $ 249 on getting my flute.
I was hoping you can direct me to where i can find a classical fingering chart as i would like to play classical music on it .
Once again thanks for your help Jem
Wes.

Hi Wes - great stuff - that's a very acceptable total price, assuming it is one of the ones with a reasonable "voice" and decent intonation - and I suppose not a disastrous amount if it turns out duff...... Those dimensions suggest it should play acceptably at A=440, though maybe with only a little extension of the tuning slide. It certainly isn't a diapason normal/Low Pitch example. Good find!
As for fingering charts for 8-key flute, there are various online resources, as you might imagine. Rick Wilson has the most comprehensive if you check up on his site, which you have already visited - just browse the Home Page. Terry McGee's website has fingering chart resources and some of the stuff on this site can be helpful. Whatever, you will most likely find that your flute will have its own peculiarities and you may have to experiment to find the best out of several possibilities for certain notes - and then some of the inferior alternatives may still prove useful in specific contexts.
I have harvested your e-address from your forum profile and will e-mail you various other resources - Rockstro and Langey full charts including trills and also my own reduced version of Rick's generic-composite with most of the less commonly useful alternatives removed, leaving just the basic common fingerings - I have versions I tailored to specific nach Meyer flutes I have worked on and you can easily do a "save as" on one of them and then edit it to show the alternatives you find best on your particular flute.
IMO it is well worth working at learning to use the full, "correct" fingerings from the outset when taking up a different instrument/system, even though to begin with that will seem onerous and frustrating.

Greetings, Chiff and Fipplers-
This is my first flute. I have been a string player all my life, but somehow got the urge to try winds. This is a Doug Tipple flute in D, with Tipple wedge (for intonation in second octave) and with extended lip plate. Getting some good tone out of it, but still coming to terms with the second octave. Overall, I am happy with the workmanship of this flute.

(I need to work on adding photos, here are the links anyway.)

Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.

That Murray has a wild grain. Is it blackwood? Seems I'm not the only one having difficulties getting blackwood that is, well, black.

That Murray is up for sale guys in the marketplace.
Picture of my old Ormiston flute, it has a nice Böhm type footjoint. Really needs a clean and polish.
Also our lovely Ikea rug
