Its very unusual to get someone who starts a topic
and then has the courtesy to come back and say thank you
for the responses.
There is a lot to be learnt from this, I am sure.
But, then, I am talking about the Pub Forum and that is an
entirely different ball game, isn't it?
Isn't it?

It's actually not "mmmm-PAW-nee," it's from a different language than is the word mpingo, which is Swahili. I think it might be Ndebele. I also think it's more correct to spell it "mopani."

I doubt that the vowel in "pa" is as long in Ndebele as most English speakers enunciate the vowel in "PAW".
In the circumstances it may be more "correct" to spell it "moponee" but, then, Roman script English and phonetics are not bedfellows.
