His name is Gabriel de Burgo, he lives in Madrid, Spain. The guitar player is José Luis Ruiz Dou. Both of them used to play togehther in a band called 'Caledonia' some 7-9 years ago. Gabriel is a very good player, has a great power and entonation. The video was recorded at a session and don't make justice to Gabriel's playing, shame.
He currently plays Olwell's as can be seen in the video. Take notice of the threaded bamboo to sort out a crack.

http://tinyurl.com/2sjdvj -- you can see how MM keeps his left-hand small finger curled and close to his other fingers-- so that when he presses the long F key or the G# key his finger can just strike out at the key.
Do you think he practiced keeping his little finger in this position? As the son of the son of a flute-player was he perhaps genetically endowed in this fashion?

nah, that's fairly typical of well-trained flute players.
what's amazing is his ability to get terrific crans and rolls on the E....and leave his RH pinkey ON THE FLUTE the whole time! Watch it closely, you'll see it immediately at measure 2 of the opening part.
Now THAT is much more amazing finger control to me.
As you know, our ring finger is our weakest.....especially with a fixed pinkey.

sound like the first reel is "the cameronian" reel and the last one is "trim the velvet". i can't place a name on the middle one though someone else might.

The middle one is the second reel in the set entitled "Meitheamh" on Lunasa's first album...I think I have the liner notes to that somewhere but can't find them, so I don't have the name of that tune. Maybe someone else can find it that way, though.
