- Tell us something.: I got interested in flutes because I already play piano and harp and am interested in instruments that aren't also furniture, and that you can get onto an airplane without getting into a fight with the gate agent.

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread
My apologies if someone else has posted this but it's a marvel:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... Z6oteRbyft
It's a whole bunch of videos of a 2012 set by Mike McGoldrick and Tim Edey, who must be the cheeriest musician I've ever seen. I can't stop listening to it, and the fourth video in the series is especially beautiful and addictive.

- Tell us something.: Hello! I am a flute player from Italy, I'm lurking this forum by years, and now I want to register my account. Really, I have a flute to sell, but surely I approve your rules, and I will contribute to the forum to gain the rights to sell something. :^)

A brilliantly played set of reels from Órlaith McAuliffe in January 2017:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Cs9SI99AE
The last tune in the set, the Devil's Ladder, was composed by Kerry fiddle and concertina player Niamh Ní Charra.

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread
I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this here but it may be of interest if I claim that it's more about the flute than the player?

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread
Here is some more phenomenal flute playing from Breton player, Erwan Menguy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_BSKhRs8TQ
I first came across Erwan's playing in this youtube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYREXxIbKI0
I'm astonished by his skills as a musician and his absolute mastery of the flute. Erwan recently released an album, called Spring Days,
featuring the first tune above. I see that it is available on iTunes here.
Alternatively, if you try to purchase it by following the link in the header of the first youtube above,
you may find that the registration email response from klam-records goes to your spam, in which case it
seems like the attempt to register (which is required to purchase) has broken, and it seems like you can
not make the purchase. So, either check your spam folder, or search for the album on itunes if you want to hear more.
I highly recommend it!

- Tell us something.: The Best Trad Flute Playlist in the World, Probably
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... x4lHZhpaND
Currently I've managed to collect following flutes (going to reduce this to concentrate on the Olwell)
Olwell keyless D - my original proper flute - has a Bb body so keeping this
Olwell 6 key D - what I'm going to now concentrate on
Martin Doyle cocus D - keeping this because it's a beautiful sweet sound from the cocus/unlined head
Hamilton keyless D - it's a beautiful instrument but gets overlooked because of the olwell
Sam Murray 6 Key D - too tempting to pick up as so easy to fill and play - need to put it on the top shelf to make me play the Olwell

Here’s a YouTube playlist I’ve been making over time of (currently) 200+ videos
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... x4lHZhpaND
Click the shuffle icon for hours of great flute videos.
The Playlist is great live Trad Irish playing on wooden flute.
Solo preferred but group where I can hear flute.
Generally as it’s video better to avoid ‘music tracks with pic’ but I’ve a few exceptions in there.
Focus on flute but have a few whistle and low whistle (tune/performance great or may translate to flute).
