2ND OCTIVE D NOTE?

I just started playing flute,with a tin whistle background.
I am having hard time getting my middle D note to sound nice.Is this typically a hard note to get when first learning or could it be characteristic of my flute(a 3-piece tony dixon polymer)
I especially have a hard time when jummping from a lower note to that D note.

Hello there:
Might suggest using the following fingering:
All fingers down except the left hand "pointer finger". A fingering chart might look like this:
OXXXXX
The note should be a bit easier with this method.

There is a post on the whistle board about venting the 2nd octave D (as is mentioned in the previous post). They mentioned that Seamus Egan always does. I think on the Dixon it's pretty necessary if you want it to sound good.
