Hi everyone!
I've held a passion for music all my life, and have been performing about half my life (since I was about 11ish ) Only recently (two years or so ago) taking up the whistle/low whistle. ANYways, Something else that's held my fascination for as long as I can remember is unusual history, and unique musical instruments.
The legends surrounding the Kiowa courtship flute, not surprisingly, have held my fancy for a long time now, but I've not been able to find a crafter/marketer of such instruments.
My own personal heritage has me seriously considering taking a trip to Oklahoma to poke around in the tourist trap "trading posts" I've often passed on my way to visit family, however, but before I do that, I'd like to ask here, would anyone happen to know of a good source on-line for unique instruments like the Kiowa courtship flute, and the like?
The more expensive flutes I've run across a few times, but now that I actually HAVE a little bit of money put back, I can't find 'em! *laughs* c'est la vie, c'est la mour, c'est la mourt
Be safe, be sane, be happy!

Two possibilities online are "Lark In the Morning" and Stellar Flutes.
Lark in the morning carries Native American flutes made by a number of different makers, from fairly inexpensive to quite costly.
Stellar Flutes are NOT made by Native Americans, and to their credit, their website clearly states that up front. Their flutes are made in the traditional way, however. I have one of their flutes, and it is a tremendous instrument.
Also, there is a flute player in the area you are going to that makes flutes under the name "Navajo Man". His flutes play beautifully, also.
Here are a couple of links:
http://www.larkinam.com/MenComNet/Busin ... ricanDrums
http://www.stellarflutes.com/standards.htm
Any reference should also include the talents of Ken Light, maker of Amon Olorin flutes. Please read his information, as it will shed light on both him and his work.

I hope you find the sound that you are hearing.
Best of luck,
Mark Sackett

Hi Daniel, this is Brigitte here. I always liked the flute playing of Carlos Nakai so I checked if he plays other flutes than Butch Hall's and he does, the link is mentioned before, it is Ken Light "Amon Olorin Flute" page http://www.aoflutes.com/main.htm
Colin has a Butch Hall flute, I do not know the key for sure but at least as low as a Low D, big thing, light like a feather, smells good, wonderfully crafted and I like listening to it a lot. (Looks like the one in the Flash-opening in Butch's website) http://www.butchhallflutes.com/flash/index.html
How is Circular Breathing coming along ?
Enjoy your weekend
Brigitte
edited to correct flute maker's name...
2. edit after seeing the "flute cases" in Ken Light's webpage, as well worth to mention.

Hello,
I want to be careful not to violate the no-seller rule... but my husband has been making native american flutes for years. He can send you pictures and sound clips if you are interested.
I tried to e-mail you privately, but had trouble and not sure if you got it.
Peace,
Kiri Miller
