Tara (Bingham) Diamond recordings

Post by Steve Bliven »

I have the "Seanechairde - Old Friends" recording of Tara and Dermy Diamond with Daithi Sproule. Has Tara Diamond made any other recordings? I'd really be interested in any solo flute recordings. Would appreciate titles and maybe even places to acquire them.

And, yeah Kevin, I have the Wooden Flute Obsession set including her one cut.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Best wishes.

Steve

There's a lot of footage, from tv and concert appearances etc, knocking about. Not a lot on her own though. She's always around for Willie too. I have some stuff from the 80s, I remember learning Youghal Harbour from that at the time. Will require a bit of an archaeological dig to locate it.

Plenty of pics, though.

No vinyl, tape, or CD? What a shame.

Best wishes.

There's some on An Gaoth Aduaidh/The North Wind

To find a copy, that's another story.

Turns out that I do have a copy of that CD (thanks Kenny). She's listed as Tara Bingham so my inventory search missed her. One cut with two jig — nicely played though.

My hope was to find other commercially available material — ideally a solo CD — that somehow wasn't in the inventory of Custy's or Ossian USA or even eBay or Amazon. Sadly, it seems she has only been on the Old Friends and a couple of cuts elsewhere.

Best wishes.

Hi Steve - I think you've got the full set of Tara's commercial recordings listed above. I had the pleasure of being in a class with her and P.J. Crotty as tutors, 1984, I think it was. Both she and P.J. were very generous in playing tunes for the class to record, and I also have recordings of her from the Flute & Whistle recitals. I think it was1984 when she did some memorable duets with Conal O'Grada. I'll check the tapes - which are getting a bit old now - and get back to you.
And as Mr. G. says above, "Youghal Harbour" was one of those tunes, still fairly obscure. I also seem to recall her playing a lovely version of "Kiss The Maid Benhind The Barrel" on a C-flute by Chris Wilkes, I think, the day after she received it. That took a lot of confidence I thought, but of course she pulled it off perfectly.

Hmm, it's a staple of the repertoire of Jackie D. It gets aired here with some regularity. :poke:

I have some mp3's from tape recordings of Tara at a Willie week flute class in the early 90's. There's about a ten of them quite short - could post if anyone's interested
