My new Olwell is almost ready!
My new Olwell is almost ready!
Just got an email from Matthew Olwell this morning that my keyless blackwood Pratten is almost ready!
Right on time too, just a little over a year from the order date.
Just a little bit more....

- Tell us something.: Started playing trad about 25 years ago with tin whistles, and bought first flute about 20 years ago. Played very sporadically, with very little discipline or tuition and unsurprisingly made little progress. Started playing again a couple of years ago after not playing much for 15-16 years.

Enjoy! I bought mine 20 years ago and I'm still in awe of how awesome it is.Jim_B1 wrote:Just got an email from Matthew Olwell this morning that my keyless blackwood Pratten is almost ready!

- Tell us something.: I really enjoy the information and experience from the members on this forum. I've learned so much from the long time members about ITM, flutes, and whistles in general. I also enjoy the humor and culture. Instrument reviews have been helpful and the posts on embouchure are priceless. As I generally don't get out to sessions, the information from this board is my only connection at times to the music.

Congrats! I got mine a year ago March. It's a fantastic flute and I consider myself lucky to have it! Hope you love yours as much (I'm sure you will)!

I'm curious How much did you pay it? It's definitely too early for me thinking to buy one, but dreaming is free

Re: My new Olwell is almost ready!
It's never too early to think about buying one--especially if you might want a keyed one in six or so years. I got on the list in 2008 thinking I'd want a Rudall but ended up getting a gorgeous six-keyed Nicholson in 2014. Another six years later and I still love it.Marish wrote:I'm curious How much did you pay it? It's definitely too early for me thinking to buy one, but dreaming is free

Marish - there was a keyless Olwell with case, but without tuning slide, for sale on Reverb recently. Went for around $1000 (10275 Swedish crowns)

- Tell us something.: Just updating my profile after 16+ years of C&F membership. Sold most of my flutes, play the ones I still own and occasionally still enjoy coming here and read about flute related subjects.

I also took about 20 years to finally get on the list. Placed my orders for a keyless and keyed back in October 2019Jim_B1 wrote:Took me 20 years to order one so the 14 month wait went by in a flash

Re: My new Olwell is almost ready!
Yes Steve, my mistake. I've corrected it now. First time I've seen an Olwell flute on the reverb site. In 2009 I bought my keyless Olwell (Pratten model) with a silver lined head joint, from a musician/teacher in Cork and paid £1300, around $1500. It was only a few months old then.Um, isn't that $1,000 ? - Steve
