The seller honestly reports "I don't know how it works."

I purchased a mismatched Rudall Carte on Ebay years ago that was sent on to Terry McGee for repair and later to Jon Cornia for reversable re-tuning (he uses wax in the holes). Terry pronounced it a "good player" and Jon's work made it easier. I remember it was put together in a rather strange way that made little sense. But at least the parts were all there. I can't remember if I was the only bidder...

Was that one of those strange flutes where the tenon is on the lower end of the barrel, and the socket on the top end of the LH section, busterbill? Or was it even weirder than that?

Monzani was fond of that approach, but I'm not sure why. Here's an example:

It is a lovely large holed typically put together Ruddall Carte, but the person who listed it had put it together strangely for the picture. I think they stuck the barrel on somewhere near the end with the metal liner being the end of the flute, put the head joint right on the body loosely and couldn't figure out where the foot went. My memory is hazy. It may have been pictured in two pieces, but it did take some imagination to put it together that way. :D

Hi Terry,
The barrel arrangement on the Monzani (I’ve seen it on a Rudall as well and other flutes)
is to accommodate the trill key maybe?
