Geez, Walt, I’m so sorry to hear that. Your father was such a nice guy. I greatly enjoyed my visit to y’all’s place a decade or so ago. Ralph pointed my wife and daughter to the black raspberry patch while I toured the shop with you and your father, which was a great idea for all of us. I enjoyed talking shop, and they enjoyed the raspberries.

Thanks for letting us know, Walt. He made a difference to many people's lives. What better epitaph can any of us hope for?

I enjoyed meeting him a number of times, such as the National Flute Association convention and when we had him here in Seattle for a flute symposium in 2001. A life well lived!

What a life! He added lustre to his family name and left a significant mark on fluting. All condolences.

Walt: There's also a little remembrance thread over in the Tin Whistle Forum.

I have a couple Sweethearts in my collection (a flute, a whistle and a tabor pipe). All are wonderful little works of art & craft! (And who doesn't love the quirky use of felt in the tenons!)

I was lucky enough to start playing more recently, with so many wonderful flute makers available. I actually started on one of your flutes, Walt! But speaking to players who have been around awhile, it's become apparent that your dad was absolutely vital to the scene at a time not so long ago when flute and whistle makers were scarce in the US. Having access to a high quality instrument from an experienced maker is so important, I'd imagine that there would be many fewer players out there without your dad having been around. He will certainly be missed.
