Hi all.
Any tips on replacing a lip plate?
It’s inset into the head.
A bit contaminated with glue.
Strikes me super glue might set too quick even in the wrong position.
Cheers.

Tip from experience - check for the presence of pins through the plate and into the wood of the head.
In my instance, despite the petrified glue, these continued to hold the plate pretty solidly to the head
but were hard to see.

Hi M.
Thanks for that.
No pins in this case tho.
Took my courage and a sharp blade to the glue /cement last night and cleared the recess.
Clearly a heavy bed of stuff to sit the plate in.
Wunderin now what the stuff is.
Would need to have a reputable flutemakers approval before I slapped it on.
Cheers th noo.

I would imagine its shellac.

If you have a couple of pieces from scraping it off, you could test its reaction to heat, and, to water (in the case its hide glue).
Color would be another clue as to what it is.
