Has anybody got links to a video showing exercises or clear examples for double cuts and cranns? Struggling a bit to get these techniques down.

Thanks

Not saying you definitely will, but you might find something useful in this: https://youtu.be/nu71mYor80o

If you are willing to pay a very modest subscription fee you can check out Blayne Chastain's online course for flute and whistle. He does a lot of excellent demonstration videos where he breaks down all of the various ornaments and techniques. Well worth it. He's a great teacher and his treatment of the material is lucid and thorough.

they’re just a succession of cuts on different notes above the note you’re ornamenting. The main trouble with them from a learning perspective is that they have to be so precise (that is, one has to finish before the next begins) that you have to play exceedingly slowly to incorporate them into a tune (and even to recognise with clarity whether you’re doing what you intend)—where they then sound rather contrived and the tune preposterously slow. Nevertheless, that’s rather the deal. Otherwise take just the section of a tune that might use them, as small as the note before to the note after, and then repeat ad nauseam, and remember to learn relaxation with it—that is, to practice it relaxed—turns out you can’t really do it by force of will. Well, you can, but not for long.

I don't recall if I discuss the technique in particular, but some of my videos suggest places to use them: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmep1Q ... jKpFWs07wA
