Ferrary Fifes - Not to Brag but....

Post by kintailpipes »

Ferrary Fifes - I just acquired these fifes and they are in excellent condition. I've always heard Ferrary Fifes are the standard for modern fifes and they sure are. Anybody know anything about Ferrary

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

From the Musique Morneaux website, Fifes page (about halfway down):

http://musiquemorneaux.com/shop/fifes/
Henry “Ed” Ferrary was a machinist from New Jersey who removed to Essex, CT in 1967, setting up his “secret shop” behind a bulkhead in his garage. Until he moved on to the scene, other local fife makers were practicing their craft using older, cruder methods; Ed utilized a “secret method” that burnished the bore as it drilled it thus creating a fife far easier to play. Ed was my first teacher of the trade, explaining his methods in a very rare moment of handing down his technique when in most cases he held very tight to his “secrets”.
