Suggestions for an Irish Walking Cane Flute

Post by mutepointe »

Hey Folks.
I’ve been gone a while. Where could I purchase one of these flute canes? I have a serenity bamboo walking cane flute and now that I need a cane full time, the wife may let me purchase one in wood. I’d like it made to be played left handed. If it matters, I’m in West Virginia, USA. I’d like to know my options and hear reviews.
Thanks.

I don't know much about the company as it is now, but Ralph Sweet used to make a walking stick flute under his "Sweetheart" brand. His workshop and business has now been taken over by
Joseph Morneault, and he has recently started making a walking stick flute again. However, it states on the website that it is NOT an orthopedic cane, so I'm not sure how useful it would be to you. Probably depnds on how much you actually need the cane.

It's at the bottom here: http://musiquemorneaux.com/flutes/

Phil Bleazey appears to make one. As does The Fife and Drum Shop.

Best wishes.

Occasionally, antique walking stick flutes can come on the market. I haven't played one myself, but known flute makers of the past have sometimes dabbled.

I have a Ralph Sweet D Rosewood version of the one Mr Gumby mentions above. The striking thing about it is that it's as good a keyless flute I've ever played. That includes a number of "top makers" keyless comparisons. Think of it as a keyless flute that just happens to be a walking stick rather than the other way round.
