on this clip orlaith mcaulaiffe plays high c nat in the second part of the moving cloud on what i think is a keyless flute.

i'm not sure how she gets it (what fingering)

could someone explain

It varies by flute. I can get a reasonably in-tune high C nat on my flute by simply:

oxo ooo

and that's good because with only one more finger down I can get the high d:

oxx ooo

I agree, most of the flutes I've tried behave this way.

Also, you can get high C-nat by half-holing. I think Orlaith is doing this at least in some places like |c'bac' bage|

Which Cnat is best is dependent on the flute. In order of pitch (flat to sharp), they common ones generally run:

OXO OOO
OXO XXX
OXO XXO

OXO OOX generally sounds, probably between the first two.

Just experiment. Which is best in tune and sounds clearest depends on the flute and also on the player.

thanks for the tips - i've tried the single hole c nat -xox xxx - and that sounds okay - i'd never have worked that out by myself so it's good to be able to ask you all
