Wooden Flute Question

Post by sarton »

I once copied a picture of a wooden flute in its case.
Apart from the flute itself I can see something sitting in the case that looks like a small gold colored ring.
I just wonder what is the use of such a ring?

Tell us something.: I try my best to play the flute and pipes. I have been coming here for years and now are required to fill this out for an address change.

Unless someone else knows better I would guess that it is a grease pot for lubricating the joints before assembling them.

You're exactly right...I have an antique flute of similar vintage that had a similar "pot" made of ivory. Still had some grease/tallow in it.
