Hygrometer

Post by AaronFW »

My wife bought me a hygrometer for my flute and I thought I'd share information about it in case anyone else was interested in a relatively modern hygrometer.

The hygrometer is a small square made by SensorPush and connects to a phone by bluetooth or it can connect to wifi (if you buy another $100 unit) and send readings to your smartphone wherever you are.

Here is an example of the graphs of the readings I can see with my phone.

One is able to set alerts so if the humidity or temperature goes outside of acceptable bounds, it will send a notification to your phone.

The hygrometer is intended for use cases such as wine cellars where one might need to keep a close eye on the temperature or humidity. But I imagine it should also work pretty nicely for instruments. :)

Edit: And since it is useful information: the Sensor is 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches x 0.5 (or 4cm x 4cm x 1.5 cm).

Hey Aaron, thanks for that. I may get one as the price is reasonable for the Bluetooth version. With my current humidification set-up this device would make life easier.

Not many reviews though, and some question the accuracy of the readings. Hmm....

I feel that way with most hygrometers though.

Hm.. I could set a second (digital) hygrometer in the same room and compare them if that would be of interest. I’m too lazy to do it for my own information, but if someone else would be interested, it may be worthwhile.

Yeah, I don’t really expect the hygrometer function to be super accurate, I was referring more to the inaccurate temperature readings mentioned in one or more of the reviews. Temperature is a bit of a concern for me during the extremes of summer and winter where I live.

No need to run a hygrometer comparison test on my behalf, but thanks for the offer, much appreciated.

Will probably just bite the bullet and buy one.

Oh. As for the temperature, my SensorPush seems to measure pretty OK or at least the results are kinda what I expect of that room.

We just bought the house and that room is on the second of two floors and I have been measuring the humidity and temperature in that room for a few weeks now with a different hygrometer. (The room currently houses a bodhran, my own bamboo flutes, and uilleann practice set.) The room has one air duct into the room, one sunny window, and really poor insulation above it.
