I see antique Rudalls appear sometimes, but I wonder if those in the know
will tell me where to look routinely for such beasties. Also is there any way
to tell good ones (that will sound good and play well at modern pitch) from the rest? Thanks

The music instrument auctions. You can bid online. Take into account the added tax and provision, postage, packing on top of the price though. Prices have plummeted since 2008.

The Done Deal Rudall is way overpriced. The owner is trying for pre 2008 prices.

The Haswell 11 key Rudall is priced fair if you're into the extra keys, but unnecessary for Irish traditional music

You can get a good simple system Rudall for under £2500, get new pads on and you are ready to play. If it's not a patent head then a head joint crack, or barrel crack, broken spring or key, is easily remedied and not expensive.

I bought my Rudalls 2012-2014 for between £950 and £1500 inclusive purchase tax, provision, packing and postage. After a professional repad by Jon Dodd they are playing fine at A=440. They were made between 1842 and June/July, 1892, and have good intonation at A=440. Serial numbers between 4871 and 7103

Thanks, i was thinking about the same question yesterday. Today, looking at one makers price list and noting large price increases, I was thinking about it again.

I have 3 Rudall's in my shop at the moment, but none for sale at the moment...

Are they personal flutes, long(er) term projects, or commissioned repair jobs? Just to be nosey.
